My counterpart in NSW, media representative and legislative liaison for Christian Science, Carey Arber, hits the nail on the head with this article, my guest post today. Please come out of the woodwork, Aussie thinkers……
So, is Australia devoid of spiritual education in healthcare? Not for long if you check out what Aussie thinkers are saying. However, it is lagging behind somewhat. Can Australia catch up with places like North America, the UK and Europe?
This fascinating observation caught my attention by Australian consultant psychiatrist, Tanveer Ahmed in The Sydney Morning Herald: “The increasing embrace of wellness ideologies to embellish personal medical credentials is a sign not of enlightened practice, but of the slow decline of the doctor as a genuine source of wisdom. It is in part a reflection of the narrowness of modern medical education that patients are fleeing the medical profession because doctors concentrate on rational knowledge at the expense of life’s mysteries. They are being moved in a very specific direction, towards religion, but not as we have previously known it.”
It’s no secret that the physical sciences have been the focus everywhere for a long time, and have just about hijacked the word ‘science’. What’s happened? Have European settlers’ descendants lost sight of their spirituality? Or is it just the “educated” ones who have lost sight?
It’s disappointing to see medical schools predominantly overseas incorporating spiritual education in their training, and not here. Schools like the Harvard Medical School.
But there are glimmers of change! An enlightening, short lecture by Australian Dr David Tacey (2011), Professor at La Trobe University – ‘Breaking free from modern medicine’ – reveals ‘life breaking through the concrete’ so-to-speak. He’s found that his students are more than a little interested in spirituality.
None of these inevitable progressive findings, discussions, and debates about spiritual healthcare and spiritual education should undermine or belittle the scholars and practitioners, who work solidly to find solutions for us, our creatures and our earth.
This is all wonderful news! I for one have relied on spiritual healthcare most my life through the teachings of Christian Science. The world’s health needs are not decreasing, and (are) mostly in dire straits. Because spiritual healing works for me, and thousands around the world, I am able to work for others in the healing practice. This divine Science has healed people of all sorts of problems for over 140 years (search records in search field).
“Christian Science explains all cause and effect as mental, not physical. It lifts the veil of mystery from Soul and body. It shows the scientific relation of man to God, disentangles the interlaced ambiguities of being, and sets free the imprisoned thought. In divine Science, the universe, including man, is spiritual, harmonious, and eternal. Science shows that what is termed matter is but the subjective state of what is termed by the author mortal mind.” ~ Mary Baker Eddy.
“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: … who healeth all thy diseases;” ~ Psalm 103 by David.
